Ai-Giannis Klidonas (24 June)

Naxos, Greece

Ai-Giannis Klidonas — annual, evening of June 23 into June 24 (feast of St John the Baptist). Nationwide midsummer custom: villagers light bonfires, burn their May Day wreaths and jump over the flames three times, paired with the 'klidonas' divination ritual. Widely celebrated across the Cyclades (Naxos, Amorgos, Antiparos) and Crete.
